Yesterday was Shelby’s first day of orientation. Prior to that Clarke had been training as a leader. It has been so exciting to finally begin this journey that we had been planning for almost a year! It has only been about a week and we’ve already learned so much.
The times of prayer and worship have already been so good for me (Shelby). We spend a few hours each day in corporate prayer and worship. At first this was hard for me. I am a go, go, go kind of person and I have trouble sitting still in the presence of God for very long. I am very diligent in doing my devotions and praying, but I have always struggled to just sit and listen to the voice of the Lord, which may be why there are times that I struggle to hear Him. Since being up here I have been able to hear God’s voice so clearly. At first I was confused about why this didn’t happen as often at home. It took me a little while to realize that as I press in and wait PATIENTLY on the Lord, He meets me there. It has nothing to do with where I am or how great the worship is, it has everything to do with taking the time to sit and listen. I am looking forward to growing in this area over the next several months. I encourage you to do the same. Add some time into your personal devotions where you just sit in the presence of God with no distractions and listen to His voice. God is trying to speak to each one of us, but it is up to us to listen.
I (Clarke) have already been inspired the past week while in Canada. It is clear to see how all of the staff and incoming students have such hunger for the Lord. I will be a small group leader during this time and it is great to see a group of people sold out to the same purpose, to grow deeper in their relationship with the Lord. When you can see a community of people living for the Lord, it inspires you to do the same. This community is going to be continually set on fire for the Lord and each of us are going to push each other to go deeper and deeper.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
Please be praying that the hunger continues to grow and that every person here is radically changed during this time.
