The past two weeks have been breakthrough. We have been learning about the father heart of God. The reason this is such a key topic for everyone is that we have all been hurt by earthly authority figures in our lives, whether that be our parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, etc. The result is that we often view God the same way in that hurting area….without even knowing it. For example, if ones father was not around when they were growing up, that person will often view God as distant and very cold and unloving. If ones mother is a perfectionist, that person might have a mindset that they need to earn their right standing before God. This week has been about the true father’s heart and perfect love that God has for each one of us.
This week has also been breakthrough for us as we begin to understand the way God truly loves us. Growing up in the church and in Christian homes it is easy to know about God but it is very different to experience His presence and love. While we have had encounters with God in the past, this week has taken us to another level of understanding God’s love. God does not love us because of our accomplishments. God does not love us less when we sin. God can never love us more and He can never love us less. You may have heard that so many times, but something changes when it goes from your head to your heart. This week we were overwhelmed by His love. Your identity, all that you are rests in Him and WHO HE IS. The more we understand this and love Him back, the more intimacy we can have with God. And the more intimacy we have with God, the more effective our ministry will be. We cannot share the extent of His great love until we know that we are loved simply because we are His.
