It’s been awhile! Our life has been crazy but very good! It has been a process of non-stop learning and growing. Over the last several weeks we have learned about spiritual warfare, how to welcome the presence of the Holy Spirit into our lives and how to operate in spiritual gifts. There is so much I could say about each of these topics but I will try to be concise.
Spiritual warfare week opened my (Shelby’s) eyes to how much power we allow Satan to have in our lives. As believers we have freedom through the blood of Christ to make war on the sin and demonic strongholds in our lives, but so often we do not recognize the issues or we do not know how to properly go into spiritual battles. We can make war on sin in our lives through repentance. If we repent of sin and make ourselves right with God, the devil can have NO power in our lives because Jesus paid the price on the cross to deliver us from sin. Our greatest weapon in spiritual warfare is the Word of God. If we know the Bible well, we can know what is truth and what is not. This helps us as believers to walk in freedom.

Acknowledging the Holy Spirit in our lives really comes back to the idea of intimacy. I feel like a lot of what I am learning comes back to this. First and foremost, I want to know God and I want God to know me. Matthew 7:22 says, “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you.’” There are so many things we can do for God or in His name, but do we really know God? How often do we talk to God; ask Him questions and actually listen for a response? How often do we really spend time in God’s presence and learn His character? Until this season in my life most everything in my walk with God was about what I was or was not doing for Him. But really, it all comes down to spending time with God and getting to know Him. All ministry will actually flow from this intimate place with the Lord. And the Holy Spirit in our lives allows us to have this intimacy with God. I encourage you to think about some of the questions I asked above and see if any of this rings true in your life as well. I know this is something that is completely transforming my walk with God.
I hope some of this sticks out to you and you can apply it to your own walk! I know that these truths are stretching me in new ways. If you ever want to hear more about any of this just send us a message!
