In just about three weeks we will be leaving for the Philippines! That is crazy to think about. It is evident that God is still doing so much in our hearts and the hearts of those on our team to prepare us for this outreach. This week the topic was revival. There was something the speaker asked us that stayed with me and I would like to pose the same question to you:
If all the prayers you prayed in the last 72 hours were answered would it make any difference?
This penetrated my heart for several reasons. First of all, I was convicted about my weak prayer life. During this season of my life I have started to grow in prayer and I try to pray in the mornings and throughout the day, but there are many days that I fail. As I thought about it, on the days that I do set aside time for prayer I often pray weak prayers. I pray and ask God to do things that I know He is capable of, or for help with things that are not that difficult for me. I rarely pray for things that are completely out of my control or that seem impossible. There are times that I pray for other people, but I mostly ask God to solve their problems instead of asking Him to move in their heart and make Himself known. I also rarely remember to pray for revival or my nation. The more I thought about this the more I realized that if God answered most of my prayers, very little in the world around me would be changed.
I challenge you to ask yourself the same question: do the prayers you pray make any difference?
This is so important because there is so much power in prayer. When we pray, we actually shift things in the spiritual realm and we can see the outcome in our world. You may think that your nation has no hope, but I encourage you to pray for your country and its leaders. Ask God to move in your home, in your family, in your friendships. Pray for revival. I also encourage you to pray out loud. There is power when you speak things out, you can actually even speak things into existence. Another powerful way to pray is to take a passage of scripture and read through it, then pray it over yourself, others or a situation. God’s Word is His will so when you pray the Word you are actually aligning yourself with God’s will.
God is stirring my heart for prayer. He is showing me that even my weakest, most boring and dry prayers actually move Him. But I don’t want to keep asking God for things that I know will be answered. I want to pray dangerous prayers, prayers that bring healing, prayers that will actually change the world around me. I challenge you to pray these types of prayers too. I think God can do so much more than we are asking of Him, He is just waiting for us to start taking risks and believing for so much more.
